These artworks are from the creative duo Deepti Nair and Harikrishnan Panicker, which is more known as Hari & Deepti. They specialize in paper cut light boxes, which wonderfully tells amazing narratives with charming panoramas and whimsical characters. In making their boxes, they take on cutting layers of watercolor paper and cutting them accurately to place. The diorama is finished off with strips of LED light that transforms their work to life.
Hari & Deepti discloses that they are “drawn towards the imaginative aspect of story telling and seek inspiration from them.” With this inspiration, they hone the flexible traits of paper by creating depth and illusions through light and shadows. Surrealist elements most often found their way as the theme of the duo’s artworks. Characters including gigantic monsters, wolves and fairy-like imps can be seen on their large-scale piece made for the window display of the AIGA National Center, New York.
Called the “Rise & Skate,” this ad is just the thing to create the right ambiance for one of the best places of design collaboration in New York.
