Based in Sydney, Australia, Gunjan Aylawadi is an amazing artist exploring crafts made out of paper. After years of experimentation, she was able to find her method: creating paper curls and putting them together and beautiful colored mosaics that, when looked from afar, does not look like they were made out of paper at all.
She starts her creations by drawing designs by hand and applying layers of curled paper over her draft.
Her works looks like giant embroideries. Aylawadi shares, “What I enjoy most about making my work is the experience people have when they look at it. They stop for a moment to have a closer look and the moment turns into long minutes of being fascinated by the beauty a simple medium like paper can add to the work in front of their eyes.”
The mosaics below are recently exhibited from the He Made She Made gallery in Sydney.
